International Conference in Vrnjačka Banja, Serbia

Participation at an international conference: 6th Meeting of the European Section of the International Academy of Cardiovascular Sciences (IACS) in Vrnjacka Banja, Serbia. A poster entitled “Quantitative Assessment of Microvascular Network Morphology and Cardiovascular Risk in Diabetic Retinopathy” authored by M. Lipovac and N. Popović from the Faculty of Medicine in Podgorica, was presented on September 13, 2019. This research was conducted to develop a methodological approach that will also be used to analyze the fundus photographs that we will collect through the DEMONSTRATE project. Fundus camera training by ULMA

ULMA Embedded Solutions organized an online training session for DEMONSTRATE team members on how to operate new hand-held digital fundus camera.

Collaboration with ULMA Embedded Solutions

The Cooperation agreement between the Faculty of medicine, University of Montenegro, and the company “ULMA Embedded Solutions” was signed in the context of DEMONSTRATE project with the aim of encouraging and supporting research, scientific and educational activities. “ULMA Embedded Solutions” is a company from Spain founded in 2009 in the ULMA Group business incubator with intentions to offer specialized services beyond electronic systems functional prototyping. They provide specialized engineering services along the whole electronic product lifecycle, from the concept to manufacturing and maintenance, including design, development and test phases. Namely, of the interest for DEMONSTRATE project, the company is working on various projects in health domain. One especially interesting project that DEMONSTRATE team already collaborated on is H2020 RETINAL that focuses on non-invasive and cost-effective tools for early detection of eye-related diseases using digital images of retina.

Montenegrin Acedemy of Sciences and Arts

The Montenegrin Academy of Sciences and Arts, the Committee on Information and Communication Technologies, organized the 2nd Scientific Conference “Information and Communication Technologies – Condition and Perspectives”, which took place at the CANU on June 10, 2019. The presentation titled “IT Megatrends and the World Around Us” included introduction to Montenegrin project with interdisciplinary components and applied computer science. Morning program on national TV service RTCG

On May 9th, Prof. Nataša Popović (UCG), Dr. Maša Ždralevic (UCG), and Ms. Alma Orahovac (NGO Futura) were guests the Morning program on the national TV service RTCG1. They presented the ambition, objectives, and the expected impact of the project outcomes on the quality of life of senior population in Montenegro. They also stressed the importance of using this scientific project as a platform to partner up with international research intuitions. This will open a new avenue for Montenegrin researchers to participate in future new project applications and to obtain additional support for efforts to help patients with cancer and Alzheimer’s disease.

DEMONSTRATE presented in the Morning program, national TV service RTCG

Kick-off meeting in Podgorica

On April 16th, the Faculty of Medicine in Podgorica hosted the kick-off meeting for the project “New methods for risk stratification for the progression of cancer and Alzheimer’s disease in patients in Montenegro – DEMONSTRATE”. The meeting was led by the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, professor Miodrag Radunović, MD, PhD. Team members from the Institute of Biomembranes, Bioenergetics and Molecular Biotechnology from Italy and the Clinical Center of Montenegro, as well as the external experts from the Faculty of Science and Mathematics of the University of Montenegro, University of Donja Gorica, and from Non-governmental Organization Futura attended the event.
